First Day School meets at the same time and location as our Friends Meeting.

Please arrive a few minutes early to help get children settled. Children and teachers will join the regular Meeting for the last five to ten minutes.

Shepherdstown Friends Meeting welcomes children of all ages to learn Quaker values and history through literature, storytelling, art, and discussion.

We reference and use educational articles from Friends General Conference (FGC):

• “Faith and Play”, Quaker Press of FGC, 2nd Edition
• “Sparkling Still: A Core Quaker Curriculum”, FGC
• “Faith and Practice”, BYM Queries p 31, 2023 edition

Adult leaders help children explore queries like:

• What is the Divine? Spirit? God? Jesus?
• When and why did the Quaker movement begin?
• How do we explore the many paths to the Divine to include other religious understandings and orientations?
• How do we practice our faith in Meeting for worship and in our daily lives?
• How do we care for each other?
• How do we learn from each other?
• What are our gifts to share?

Adults are guided by the spirit to lead children in their journey of faith and are challenged by queries like:

• Does our meeting provide religious education including the Bible, Friends’ history and practices in the Meeting?
• How do we share our deepest beliefs with children while leaving them free to develop as the Spirit may lead them?

Shepherdstown Friends currently hold a Meeting for Worship with Attention to Business on a monthly schedule, supplemented with specially called meetings as needed.

The regular schedule for business meetings is the second Sunday of the month, following the weekly Meeting for Worship.

Visitors are welcome to attend these meetings.

From time to time, there are mid-week Meetings on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 or 7:00 pm.
